Looking for Something New? Join the Winter Challenge!

Are you interested in what it’s like to work at prognostica? Then join our Winter Challenge! In the coming weeks, we will present three tasks that will give you a small insight into the broad range of tasks at prognostica. The best part? Everyone who actively participates in all tasks will be invited to a joint event in our office. There, we will reflect on the tasks together, discuss approaches, and talk about data science, favorite movies, or holiday plans. We look forward to meeting YOU! At the end, we will award a dining voucher for a restaurant in Würzburg as the main prize to the participant whose submissions have particularly impressed us.

And it starts with Part 1 of the Challenge: Bicycle Traffic in Würzburg

Good forecasts are important for reliable planning. How would you go about predicting bicycle traffic in the city of Würzburg? Show us your solution in R or Python, which will create the most accurate forecast for the next 5 days. It should include a function that reads the provided CSV with the columns date and value and outputs the forecast. The output format should be a JSON object with a field called forecast, which contains the values for the individual days as a list:

{"forecast": [1., 2., 3., 4., 5.]}

If you want to present us additional results, just add them as additional fields in the JSON object. Show us in a Jupyter notebook how best to call your function. Everything else is up to you. For example, you can explain to us in a short text what is special about your solution and why you have chosen this approach. We are excited to see which approach will deliver the best forecasts in the coming weeks. You can find the data here, which have already been prepared by us. They come from the Open Data Portal of the City of Würzburg.

Send us your submission to winter@challenge.prognostica.de. Part 2 will continue in January.
